Give a Little Self-Love this Valentine’s Day
There are mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day: a lot of people hate it, a lot of people love it, some people ignore it, and then there’s that group of people who believe it’s a fake holiday for selling cards and chocolates. Whatever you feel about it, I think it’s a great excuse to show a little love! Whether you have a significant other/others to celebrate with, are going for the Leslie Knope Galentine’s Day approach, have kids to adore, or plan on admiring your own wonderful self, it’s a great time to give in to some good feels.
In this special V-Day blog post, I’m going to recommend a few self-love gift ideas. They are great for you, but they’re also highly satisfactory gifts for those in your life who might need a little self-love TLC themselves.
Massages are the epitome of giving back to your body. Show yourself, or someone else, some love via one-on-one time with a professional masseuse to ease all of the tension we carry in our bodies. It’s guaranteed satisfaction and a great way to tune out the world for 60-90 minutes while the body receives some serious lovin’.
What better way to say “I love you” to your body than with a good clarifying yoga session? Wring out all of the bad and breathe in the good with a 60 minute vinyasa or 90 minute gentle flow, to let your body know how much you appreciate it and admire it. Keeping your body moving and healthy is the best gift we can give it!
Getting in front of the camera and feeling beautiful is a huge confidence boost! Schedule a boudoir shoot with a local photographer and get a whole album of gorgeous photos of yourself. Look at them often, admire them often, and keep them as your reminder of how amazing your body is.
Journals & Pens
A good journal and a set of perfect pens goes a long way: pick out a journal you’re excited to write in and start documenting your life. What amazing things did you do today? What are you proud of? What did you do to take care of yourself this week? Which friends did you spend the most time with? Keep it full of positive affirmations and highlights from your day/week to practice gratitude. If you aren’t into free-writing, find a journal with prompts – there are tons of variations available.
Self-love definitely includes nourishing yourself – ALL of yourself. Take a cooking class to learn how to make your favorite professional meals, or take a healthy food cooking class to start some long-term habitual change that your body will love. Or, cook your favorite comfort foods like a pro! It’s up to you!
A great way to show yourself some love and boost your confidence is to take a Master Class or other online course in something you find fascinating. Spend V-Day immersed in that thing you’ve always wished you could do or always wanted to know more about. There’s nothing that screams self-love more than opening new doors for yourself to learn and grow.
Totally free to you, forest bathing is a form of nature therapy that originated in Japan. All you need to do is gift yourself space and time to be unhindered in nature to reflect and relax. Find a favorite state park or forest and set out on a slow-paced hike to observe your environment, be present, and release tension and stress. For help engaging in this practice, check out this link.
At-Home Spa Kit
Hit up your local apothecary or body-care boutique and ask the sales representative to help you put together an at-home spa day for yourself – take your goodies home, slide on your comfy robe, and spend an entire day enjoying spa-quality TLC in the comfort of your own home.
There are lots of ways to practice self-care, and V-Day is a great opportunity to explore some options. Whether you’re spending the holiday alone, with a group of friends, or with a significant other, you deserve to throw some of the abundant love back at yourself! Or, send that love to a friend who needs it – sometimes our best friends need a little encouragement to get on the self-love train themselves. Either way, enjoy your company (or lack thereof) and spread the love. Happy Valentine’s Day!
